Face

Represents a face (codimension-1 element) in a mesh.

Defined in Rodin/Geometry/Polytope.h

class Face;

Faces are polytopes of dimension $ d-1 $ where $ d $ is the mesh dimension:

  • Triangles or quadrilaterals in 3D meshes
  • Segments in 2D meshes

Faces are crucial for:

  • Boundary condition application
  • Interface problems
  • Flux computations

Function documentation

Face(Index index, const MeshBase& mesh)

Constructs a face with given index.

Parameters
index in Index of the face in the mesh
mesh in Reference to the containing mesh

Face(const Face& other)

Copy constructor.

Parameters
other Object to copy from.

Face(Face&& other)

Move constructor.

Parameters
other Object to move from.

bool isBoundary() const

Checks if this face is on the mesh boundary.

Returns True if the face is a boundary face, false otherwise

A face is on the boundary if it belongs to only one cell.

bool isInterface() const

Checks if this face is an interface between regions.

Returns True if the face separates different material regions

An interface face connects cells with different attributes.
